Accessibility

This site should work for everybody.

A donation page that a blind donor cannot complete is a donation page that is broken. Accessibility here is a build requirement, not a retrofit.

What we target

WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Every page is checked against automated accessibility tests as part of building it, and the site currently passes with zero violations. Colours were chosen to meet the contrast thresholds rather than adjusted afterwards — two of the palette values exist specifically to clear 4.5:1 and 3:1.

What that means in practice

  • Every page works by keyboard alone, including the donation form and the menu. There is a skip link to jump straight to the content.
  • Focus is always visible. You can see where you are.
  • Images have text alternatives, and decorative images are hidden from screen readers rather than announced as noise.
  • Text resizes without the layout breaking, and nothing depends on colour alone to be understood.
  • Animations respect the reduced-motion setting, and none of them flash.
  • The site is built to work without JavaScript for reading; only the donation form and menu need it.

Where we know it falls short

Automated tests catch roughly a third of accessibility problems. They do not tell us whether the site is genuinely usable with a screen reader, and we have not yet had it tested by disabled users. We are not going to claim a standard we have only machine-checked.

Payment happens on Stripe’s own checkout pages, which are outside our control, though Stripe publishes its own accessibility commitments.

If something does not work

Tell us and we will fix it — and if the barrier is stopping you donating, we will take your donation another way in the meantime rather than making you wait for a code change.
