Donation policy
Your money, and your right to change your mind.
Most charities bury this page. It is short, it is in plain English, and the summary is: if you want your donation back, you can have it.
What happens to your donation
Unless you direct it to a specific programme, your gift goes wherever the need is sharpest that month — which is usually whichever programme is furthest from its funding, not the one with the best photographs.
If you do choose a programme, your gift is tracked to it. In the rare case a designated programme is fully funded or cannot proceed, we will contact you before moving your gift somewhere else.
Refunds
If you donate by mistake, enter the wrong amount, or simply change your mind, email us and we will refund you in full. We do not require a reason and we will not try to talk you out of it.
Refund requests within 30 days are processed automatically. After 30 days we will still refund you wherever we can — the limit is practical rather than principled, because funds may already be committed in the field, and because a receipted gift that is later refunded has tax consequences we have to unwind properly.
Refunds go back to the original payment method and typically appear within 5–10 business days, depending on your bank.
Cancelling a monthly gift
One email is enough. We will not ask you to reconsider, offer you a smaller amount instead, or route you through a retention script.
Cancellation stops all future payments. It does not refund payments already taken — if you want those back too, say so and we will handle it under the refund section above.
Receipts
Stripe emails you a payment receipt as soon as your donation clears. That is proof of payment.
We cannot currently issue official donation receipts, because our charitable registration is not yet confirmed. That means your gift is not eligible for a charitable tax credit, and we will not imply otherwise.
If you are giving specifically for the tax receipt, please wait until we can honestly issue one. We would rather have your donation later than mislead you into it now.
Failed and disputed payments
If a monthly payment fails, Stripe retries it a small number of times over the following days. If it keeps failing, the gift is cancelled automatically and we will not chase you about it.
If you do not recognise a charge from us, please email before raising a chargeback. We can almost always resolve it faster than your bank can, and a chargeback costs the charity a fee on top of the disputed amount.
Gifts we will not accept
We decline donations where the source of funds is unclear, where accepting would compromise our independence, or where a condition is attached that we cannot honour.
We do not accept gifts that come with any expectation of influence over who we help.
